While discussing phones under Rs 30,000, the Nothing Phone (1) and the Pixel 6a are the two often mentioned possibilities. The phones have been the topic of several internet comparisons. Carl Pei, a co-founder of Nothing, is not pleased with the analogies, though. Because one phone is a “entry level phone” and the other is a “flasghship phone,” he believes it is inappropriate to compare the two. When Pei was questioned on Twitter about why he believed the Nothing Phone to be superior than the Google Pixel 6a, Pei took full advantage of Twitter’s expanded character limit and provided eight justifications.
Pei stated that he finds it strange that the Nothing Phone (1) and the Pixel 6a are frequently contrasted. The Pixel 6a is referred to as a “entry-level phone” and Phone 1 as a flagship phone by him. The Pixel’s entry-level smartphone is the 6a. Our flagship smartphone is Phone (1). In a lengthy tweet, Pei claimed that the BOM (bill of materials) cost to construct the Phone (1) was much greater than that of the 6a.
Pei also provided eight arguments in favour of the Nothing Phone.
Pei’s original justification was that the Phone 1’s symmetrical bezels around the screen give it a more streamlined appearance than the 6a’s protruding chin. He also emphasises how the Gorilla Glass 5 back cover on the Phone (1) gives it a more premium feel than the 6a’s plastic rear. Moreover, the Phone (1) has a faster CPU, which accelerates performance.
The Phone’s improved camera hardware is another perk. He does, however, acknowledge that the Phone (1) has a long way to go before it catches up to the Pixel 6a in terms of software. He also emphasises how the Phone (1)’s 120Hz refresh rate, which is twice as fast as the 6a’s 60Hz, results in a considerable improvement in scrolling fluidity. The Phone (1) is more suited for media consumption since it has a larger screen than the 6a, measuring 6.55 inches as opposed to the 6a’s 6.1 inches.
Regarding the software on the two phones, he claims that Nothing OS is better than Pure Android. Although both are excellent, he claimed that the Nothing OS on the Phone (1) has greater aesthetics and optimization/polish/finesse than Pure Android. The Phone (1) offers quicker wired and wireless charging, whereas the 6a does not. According to Carl Pei, these elements make the Phone (1) a better choice for anyone who value performance, design, and charging capabilities.
In terms of cost, the Flipkart listing for the Pixel 6a is Rs 31,999, while the listing for the Nothing Phone (1) is similarly Rs 31,999. On Flipkart, the phones can be purchased for about Rs 28,000 with bank discounts.
